How to Download Digital Files from Etsy

Common Questions & Issues

  • The file won’t download / looks broken.
  • Try re-downloading using a different browser or device. Sometimes your internet connection, antivirus, or pop-up blocker might interrupt or block the file. Restarting your browser often helps.
  • The Etsy app isn’t showing any files.
  • Etsy’s mobile app doesn’t support digital file downloads. Use a browser (like Chrome or Safari) on your phone, tablet, or computer to log into Etsy.com and access your files under Purchases & Reviews.
  • I thought this was a physical product
All my items are digital downloads. There’s no shipping — you’ll receive a printable file you can print at home. Please check the listing description for details.
  • Can you customize the file for me?
My files are not editable unless stated otherwise. Most items are ready-to-print as shown and can’t be altered or personalized.
  • I’m having trouble logging into Etsy / paying / changing my email.
These are Etsy account issues I can’t access or fix. Please contact Etsy Support directly.
  • I downloaded the file but want a refund.
Etsy generally doesn’t allow refunds on digital items once they’ve been downloaded. That said, if there’s a problem with your file, message me — I want you to be happy with your order.
  • I accidentally bought this twice.
Don’t worry — just message me on Etsy with your order numbers, and I’ll gladly offer a replacement file or shop credit.

Downloading Files

Downloaded a printable and not sure where it went — or how to get it in the first place?

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Whether you’re downloading from Etsy, the Free Resource Library, or an email link, here are a few things to check:

  • Using a phone or tablet?
Most printables are ZIP files or large PDFs. Phones and tablets often struggle to handle these unless you have a dedicated app installed. For best results, download on a laptop or desktop.
  • On a mobile device and can’t download from Etsy?
Etsy doesn’t support digital downloads in their app. To get your files, open Etsy in a browser (like Chrome or Safari), log into your account, and go to Your Purchases.
  • Can’t find your downloaded files?
Most computers save downloads to a folder called “Downloads” by default. If you’re unsure, try searching your device by file name or check your browser’s recent downloads list.
  • Clicking the download button doesn’t work?
Some browsers or antivirus programs may block downloads by default. Try a different browser, disable your pop-up blocker temporarily, or right-click and select “Save As” instead.
  • Getting a “file corrupted” message?
This can happen if your internet cuts out mid-download or the file was blocked. Delete the file and try downloading it again using a different browser or device.
  • Not sure what to do with the file after downloading?
If you’re seeing ZIP, PDF, or JPEG and wondering what now — hop down to the File Types section for help. I’ll walk you through exactly how to open and use them.

Need step-by-step help?

I’ve got a full printable-friendly guide that walks you through the process:
👉 How to Download and Open Printables

File Types

Most Crafter Journal printables are provided as PDF or JPEG files — and often delivered in a ZIP folder so everything stays neatly organized. If you’re unsure what these file types are or how to use them, you’re not alone!

Here’s what you need to know:

🗂️ Zip Files

  • ZIP files are compressed folders that contain multiple files. To access your printables, you’ll need to unzip the folder first. On most computers, just double-click. On phones or tablets, you may need a free app like WinZip, ZArchiver, or iZip to extract the files.
  • Can’t open ZIPs? Try using a computer instead of your phone, or install one of the apps mentioned above. Once unzipped, you’ll see all your printable files (usually organized by format or size).

🖼️ PDF & JPEG

  • Not sure if you should use PDF or JPEG?
You only need to download one file format — either PDF or JPEG.
→ Use PDF if you want to print full pages or multi-page kits from Adobe Acrobat.
→ Use JPEG if you want to treat them like image files — great for inserting into design programs or printing one page at a time.
  • Can’t open the PDF?
Make sure you’re using a proper PDF reader like Adobe Acrobat Reader (it’s free!). Opening a PDF in your browser or preview app may cause issues like blank pages or missing details.
  • Downloaded a PDF but didn’t see the printables?
Some products on Etsy come as a PDF with download links — this is because Etsy limits file sizes. Just open the PDF and click the link inside to access the full printable kit (no extra purchase needed!).
  • Why am I seeing blank pages or blurry images?
This usually means the file isn’t opening properly. Try downloading the file again, and make sure to open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader rather than your web browser. Printing from a browser or preview app can lead to poor quality or missing graphics.

🧺 Why So Many Files?

  • Why are there so many files in the folder?
Some printable kits include lots of elements: full pages, tags, pockets, journaling cards, labels, etc. You don’t need to use them all at once — just pick what works for your project.
  • Feeling overwhelmed after unzipping?
That’s totally normal. Start with one or two pages and ease into your project. You can always come back and explore more later.

Printing

Printing your junk journal printables should feel easy and fun — not frustrating. Below you’ll find a quick step-by-step to help you get started, plus answers to the most common issues crafters run into. For more in-depth help, you can also check out the full Printing Guide here.

🖨️ The Printer I Use and Recommend

I personally use the Epson EcoTank ET-2850* — it’s beginner-friendly, refillable, and gives crisp, beautiful results on all my printables.

📄 My Favorite Papers for Junk Journaling

Want your prints to look their best? These are my top choices:

  • 32 lb writing paper (120 gsm) – For pages, layering & foldables
  • Light cardstock (160 gsm) – For fussy cuts, ephemera & pockets
  • Medium cardstock (250 gsm) – For covers & structural elements

👉 For more help choosing the right paper, check out my Paper Guide.

🔧 How to Print Successfully

  1. Unzip the files (if needed)
If your printables came in a .zip folder, you’ll need to extract them before printing. On desktop, just right-click the file and choose Extract All.
  1. Choose your file type
  • PDFs are perfect for full kits and multi-page files
  • JPEGs are great for printing single pages or resizing
  1. Open the file in the correct app
  • PDFs: Use Adobe Acrobat Reader (free download)
  • JPEGs: Open in your image viewer or printing software
  1. Load your paper correctly
  • For cardstock or thick paper, use the rear tray if your printer has one
  • Make sure your paper is straight and not overloaded in the tray
  1. Adjust your print settings
  • Print Quality: Choose High or Photo
  • Paper Type: Match what you’re using (e.g., Cardstock, Photo Matte)
  • Scale:
    • For Letter (8.5″ x 11″) → Select Actual Size
    • For A4 → Use Fit to Page or Shrink oversized pages
  1. Print and enjoy!
If you’re unsure, start with a test print on regular paper.

❓ Common Questions

Make sure your print quality is set to High or Photo and you’ve chosen the correct paper type in your settings. Using the wrong setting can make colors look flat.

Check your paper size and scaling settings. Use Actual Size for Letter paper or Fit for A4 to avoid awkward cropping.

Some glossy or coated papers can hold wet ink longer. Let prints dry completely and make sure your paper type matches your settings.

Check that your files are unzipped and fully downloaded. Then double-check your printer connection and restart your computer and printer.

I recommend the Epson EcoTank ET-2850* printer and a mix of 32 lb writing paper and light to medium cardstock depending on what you’re printing.

Tutorials & Instructions

Looking for help assembling a printable you downloaded? Whether you bought it from my Etsy shop or grabbed it from the Free Resource Library, every project comes with easy-to-follow instructions — either as a video, a step-by-step photo guide, or both.

Below, I’ll show you exactly where to find the tutorials and what to do if something doesn’t look quite right. Let’s make crafting feel simple and joyful 💛

✨ How My Tutorials Work

Every tutorial post on my site is structured to make things easy and enjoyable for you.
At the top of each tutorial post, you’ll find three buttons:
Video – Printable – Tutorial — tap these to jump straight to the part you need.

You can watch the video or follow the step-by-step photo tutorial — whichever works best for you.
Many tutorials also include extra tips on how to decorate or use your finished project in your journal.

And if something’s unclear? Just leave a comment on the blog or YouTube video — I read every one and I’m happy to help 💛

🔍 Finding Tutorials

Where is the tutorial for the printable I bought?
Each product includes a PDF with tutorial links — make sure to open that after downloading your purchase.
You’ll also find the video tutorial linked directly in the Etsy listing description.

Where is the tutorial for a freebie from the Resource Library?
Under every printable download in the Free Resource Library, there’s a button labeled “See Tutorial.” Just tap that to visit the matching tutorial post.

I saw a tutorial once, but I can’t find it now.
You can browse all of my tutorials here: Tutorial Library
You can filter by:

  • Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
  • Project Type: Junk Journals, Folios, Ephemera, Embellishments, Interactive Elements

🧰 Tools & Materials

Each tutorial post includes a full list of the tools and supplies you’ll need, right before the step-by-step instructions.
These materials are also listed in the YouTube video description if you’re watching instead of reading.

I always try to include budget-friendly options and suggest substitutions where possible — so don’t worry if you don’t have every tool.

🧩 Troubleshooting

Yes! I often design multiple versions of the same project with different themes — but the tutorial steps are the same. You can absolutely follow along even if your kit looks a little different.

If the design or colors look different, you may have a different version of the kit — but the assembly process is identical. If you’re unsure, check the title or file name to confirm you’re using the right printable.

Each tutorial video is embedded in the blog post, but you can also watch it directly on YouTube.
Prefer step-by-step instructions? You’ll find those with photos right in the post. Both formats are there to support how you like to learn 💛

🛠️ More Troubleshooting Tips

  • The tutorial shows a different design than the one I downloaded.
Don’t worry — I often create multiple versions of a printable with different colors or artwork. The construction steps are exactly the same!
  • I’m not sure how to fold or assemble the pieces.
Some folds or tabs can be tricky at first. Be sure to watch the video or scroll through the photo tutorial — both formats walk you through it step by step.
  • My finished piece looks different than yours.
This might be due to different paper, tools, or printer settings — and that’s okay! Every journaler’s results are unique, and perfection isn’t required.
  • I don’t know how to use the finished piece.
Many tutorials include a section with ideas for how to use, decorate, or store the finished project — perfect for getting inspired!
  • My pieces didn’t line up after printing.
This usually means your printer scaled the file (shrunk or enlarged it slightly). I recommend double-checking your settings — print at 100% or “Actual Size” whenever possible. You can find more help in my Printing Guide.
  • I didn’t get any instructions in the download.
If you purchased a kit or downloaded a freebie, you should have received a PDF file with links to the video and step-by-step tutorial. If you can’t find it, check your download folder — or head to the Tutorials page to browse.
  • The glue or ink is making everything buckle.
That’s usually a sign of too much moisture or the wrong type of glue. My Glue Guide explains how to get clean, wrinkle-free results.
  • I think something’s missing from the kit.
Most printable kits include multiple pages — be sure to scroll through the whole file. If you think something is truly missing, feel free to contact me, and I’ll check for you!

Supplies & Tools

Most junk journal printables are beginner-friendly and don’t require fancy tools — just a few basics will do. But if you’re wondering what supplies I use or where to find them, this section will help.

Supply List

You’ll find a full list of recommended tools and materials (marked by skill level) in my Junk Journal Supplies Guide. For each tutorial, I also list the exact tools I’m using in the blog post and YouTube description.

✂️ What Tools Do I Really Need?

  • Do I need special tools to assemble the printables?
Not at all! Most projects can be completed with scissors, a glue stick, and maybe a bone folder. As you craft more, you might find other tools that make things quicker or cleaner — but you can start simple.
  • Can I use regular school glue?
School glue (like Elmer’s white glue) often contains too much water, which can wrinkle or warp your paper. A good glue stick is a much better choice for beginners — it’s quick, tidy, and great for most printables.
  • Do I need all the tools I see in your photos or videos?
Definitely not. I show helpful tools I personally like, but most printables can be assembled with whatever you have on hand. If something seems unfamiliar or out of reach, feel free to skip it — the project will still turn out beautiful.
  • Where can I buy the supplies you’re using?
I include Amazon or craft store links in the tutorial post and video description whenever possible. These are often affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you choose to purchase — at no extra cost to you.
  • Is there a checklist or beginner starter kit I can print?
Yes! You can download a free printable supply guide that breaks everything down by skill level: essentials, beginner tools, and optional extras.
  • Can I use everyday items like kitchen scissors or office paper?
Of course! If they work for you, that’s perfect. If you notice paper tearing, glue not sticking, or cuts being rough, then you might want to try tools designed for crafting. But there’s no pressure — crafting should feel joyful, not stressful.
